>Moving, moving, moving.

Luckily, I was overdressed for work when Beth took this picture. :)

This is me pretending to be working at my desk. Hehe. Well no, I wasn’t pretending to be working. And no, that isn’t my desk. It used to be, though. I miss that desk.

Actually, I just moved to the desk right beside it. Haha! But the feel isn’t the same. There’s really something great about having a desk in the corner. It’s sort of like having a room but not, plus you can stick things on the wall beside you. I had 2 corkboards, a white board, a little wooden, um...thing where I could hang my bag, my jacket, my cap, and sometimes my towel when I had to spend the night in the office. I even had an NBA mini-basketball ring! I still have it on my new desk, but I’m not in the corner anymore, so shooting some hoops with crumpled paper while sitting down might annoy my new seatmate. Oh! And I had a computer! Argh! The only thing that desk didn’t have was a telephone. And now I have a new desk and I STILL don’t have a telephone! Well, not every desk has a telephone anyway, so that was ok. But it was so cool to have my own computer. Darn.

So why did I have to give up my favorite desk ever? Because Probe is coming up with a new show. Pretty cool, eh? Right now, the office area is divided into 3 sections: Admin, The Probe Team and GamePlan. The Probe Foundation is in a separate area of the house, and Cheche Lazaro Presents has only one desk in our section since the producers come from all the other shows anyway; but since we’re working on a new show, we had to give up at least one table with a computer. So they picked mine. Huhu.

Things aren’t really that bad, though. The new show isn’t even airing yet, so I still get to squat in the corner to use the computer. Heehee. Corner desk withdrawal ba.

***
I’ll be leaving for Batangas in a few hours for the First Iron Man Triathlon in the Philippines. Way cool! The race is this Saturday and everybody’s going to be there and I’m so excited that I can’t sleep! Actually, I’m trying not to sleep because God knows I won’t be able to make the 530am call time if I do. Ayayay. Stay up, STAY UP!

I found mango tartlets in the ref. Mmmm, yummy.

*Hey, Ramon! You want some mangoes? Hehe, just kidding.
*Oh! And welcome back,
Steph! Sorry I won't be able to see you. I hope you have fun while you're here. :)

>Back to work, back to reality...

Good ol' Camille just arrived from a nice, long break and man, am I glad I'm not her!

The prod sked from hell! Click to enlarge.

Welcome back! Hehe. :)

By the way, the new Chatterbox is up. Enjoy! And I'm telling ya, one free beer for the first Wednesday Groupie to post! Who's it gonna be?

*Chris and Alexis: I still owe you a beer each. :)

Ok, taggers! Sorry, but the my ventboard's temporarily down until I figure out how to do what Meg did to hers. Hehe. Meg, my html guru. Naks! Anyway, go over to her site muna and fill up her new note pad. :)

>What’s a LAN Party?

It’s a pretty cool concept really. LAN Party! What happens is a couple of friends bring their CPUs to one house, connect the computers into a network and play games all night long. So instead of having to pay for your hours in a network gaming hub, just bring everything to a friend’s house and poof! You have a LAN party! Cool, no?

I went to an old friend’s birthday party last week and it was the usual fun with alcohol and lots of pulutan. There were chips and siomai and surprisingly, we had balut! Hehe. I also tried a drink called a strawberry mudslide and it was really yummy. Anyway, the official party was in the garden, but in the terrace there were 3 computers that were connected in a network. 2 of our other friends were playing D&D. I was watching them for a while and I wanted to try playing with them, but the third computer had no speakers. Sad. So instead, they showed me the video downloads from Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

The videos were hilarious! I saw the Starwars Nerds which was shot outside a theater during the premiere of Star Wars: Episode 2. Triumph was making fun of everybody in costume, that they were geeks who would never get laid or something like that. Then there was this crazy guy in a really nice Gandalf costume. Uh, excuse me! Wrong movie! Hehe. I also liked the other video during Bon Jovi’s Concert. Hahaha! Ramon told me about it before, but it was so funny to watch. Triumph was humping Heather Locklear’s arm! Haha!

So there. It wasn’t officially a LAN party, but at least I got a taste what it was like. I hope to attend a real one some time, but I don’t think I’d want to go through the hassle of bringing my own CPU. All that disconnecting and connecting and desconnecting again? Ayuh.

>Tagalaog movie marathon.

I needed to kill some time last week, so I decided to go see Hibla. Everyone was talking about it anyway, so I was curious.

Sad to say, the story was ok and the dialogue was ok, but the delivery was horrible. I didn’t feel the pain of Rica Peralejo’s character, Maui Taylor had only one way of saying most of her lines, and I didn’t like Ricky Davao in this movie. The cinematography was beautiful, though. I liked the lighting and the framing, and the establishing shots of the mountains were pretty (albeit too many). I think that the actresses’ fake breasts destroyed a lot of shots, though. How can you make a shot sexy when the breasts that you’re shooting aren’t even sexy, right?

And what was with their clothes? I thought that Rica was supposed to be conservative, but then her peasant blouses kept on becoming off-shoulder. Weird.

All in all, I think that the film was sayang.

***
Kailangan Kita with Aga Muhlach and Claudine Barreto was fun to watch. Really, it was! I liked all the cooking scenes. Wow, so much food! And Aga’s English was a little funny. Our favorite line was “It’s your time to shine and be happy.” Heehee.

There were some parts in the story that tried to fit in but were never really dealt with in the end. Elena (Barreto) has a boyfriend named Abel (Jericho Rosales) who’s part of the NPA. Throughout the movie, little bits of hatred for the NPA pop up from Elena’s dad, her brothers and Carlos (Muhlach). Jericho’s cameo was very short (Mich: That’s it? That’s all I get to see of Jericho?!). As Abel, he injures his leg, gets help from Elena, gets caught and tries to run away with his injury. Elena’s brothers chase him with guns and you hear a gunshot. Oh no! Cry, cry (because I’m a softee). Cut to Elena’s dad scolding her for helping the NPA, therefore establishing why Elena is the most oppressed member in their family. As in Carlos thought that she was a helper.

Then that’s that. Hardly anything else about Abel except that Elena wanted to run away with him long ago. Then she falls in love with Carlos (Aga) who’s about to marry her older sister, played by Rissa Samson. Now that’s kind of screwed up. What about Abel? He just got died! Then they make love...in the barn! With the door open! Ayayay. And again, what was with the clothes? Claudine was dressed like Peralejo in Hibla! Why? Well, at least she had very nice makeup. Hehe.

Rissa had a very nice dress by Inno Sotto, but she only came out in the ending. I wish that they showed more of her because she was very pretty.

***
I had no idea that the VIVA Cinema Channel was under STAR TV. Anyway, we ended up watching Hiram na Mukha. Naks! I wasn’t really paying that much attention, but it did look like a pretty tragic story. I think Medved’s character’s name was Clarissa, and the opening was this carnival where Clarissa and her mother were in a display called Ang Mag-Inang Unggoy. Yikes! She and her mother were so abused for being ugly that even their neighbors in the barangay would create trouble in front of their house.

One night, people started throwing rocks at their house. Clarissa and her mother tried to run away with their Lola (Caridad Sanchez), but their neighbors cornered them. Then Mendez (Cesar Montano) comes to the rescue and beats up some of the guys, and the fighting finally stops when Cherrie Pie Picache’s character arrives at the scene. She’s like the good-looking big boss of the barangay I think, and she’s in love with Mendez. But Mendez falls in love with Clarissa, and so the love triangle war begins.

Christopher de Leon plays this famous mad doctor, a plastic surgeon who dreams of making the most beautiful face in the world or something. So he meets Clarissa one night and decides to make her his project and voila! Clarissa becomes beautiful. But then she also becomes very bitchy and uses her beauty to get back at Picache. Her mother dies of TB, though, so she and her Lola move into this nice house provided by her doctor, and it so happens that Mendez is one the doctor’s new houseboys. Hala! Mendez and Clarissa fall in love again, but the doctor falls in love with her as well, even if he’s already married, and he keeps saying that he owns her face. And so begins another war for love.

The ending is really sad. Mendez and the doctor have fight near the edge of a cliff and when Mendez goes down, the doctor gets his gun and Clarissa goes between them. She asks the doctor to just give her old face back and to leave her and Mendez alone. The doctor lowers his gun and sadly tells her that he created her and that he loved her with everything he had. Then he shoots himself in the head and Clarissa gives this amazingly tragic cry. The doctor’s wife comes running into the scene, cradles her dead husband in her arms and just cries very quietly.

Whooh! Medyo magulo na heavy yun a.

***
Now we’re watching Megamol starring Sharon Cuneta and Andrew E. Hahaha! It’s so funny!

Megamol!

Don’t you just miss Tagalog movies that had stupid nyeh fun? And there’s this one funny scene where they’re taking a break and eating in Jollibee while being chased by some daguls. I guess this movie was way before Cuneta started doing ads for McDo. Plus, she has fight scenes! Haha! I never thought I’d enjoy Cuneta in a fight scene. She’s so funny!

>I lay me down before I sleep.

I love this picture.
When 2 or 3 are gathered in His name...

I say a little prayer every night before I sleep. I find that to be a more meaningful ritual than going to Sunday mass, probably because I'm in a better state of mind for reflecting on what transpired during the day. I also sleep better after praying. I've gone home many times feeling completely exhausted and just hoping to sleep once I crash onto my bed. But I have difficulty sleeping sometimes and it's only after I pray that I fall into a very peaceful sleep.

There are other times when you have so many problems, or just plain thoughts, zooming around in your mind and keeping you up all night. Sometimes these thoughts can become so overwhelming that you just cry frustrated, hoping that you could just sleep everything off and wake up with a fresh start. I find that long prayers over these thoughts, addressing each and every problem and lifting them up to God, even for just one night, can truly help. Not only do will I get to dreamland sooner, but I would also have thought everything over and brought them into a new light. When I wake up, my mindset has changed and instead of problematizing everything again, I aim to get things fixed and to put my daily life back on track.

Some people don't believe in praying before sleeping, but I do. Maybe it's because Mama taught me how to pray at a very young age and it's amazing how that same prayer still gives me peace in my sleep.

Now I lay me down to sleep.
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.

***
I think I should teach my dolls Marina and Poochie how to pray, too. With a dolphin and a puppy praying with me, God's sure to hear our racket! I'll answer your prayer! Just shut uuup!!! Hehe. Loko lang, Papa Diyos. :)

Last night was my second time to attend the NU Rock Awards and I was very excited. I met up with Mich at her place and we dressed up and put on makeup and shit. In short, I looked very girl. Uy! Now if only I could walk like one.

Mich’s carpool comprised of herself, Hannah, Goldie, Ernan, Alexis, and me seated in the front with Raver Rudy. We got to the World Trade Center in Pasay and to our horror, there were lots of people lining up outside. Our passes were with Quark who was already inside with Lia, Joey and Chris. Carlo spotted us and we all walked straight to the VIP line which actually wasn’t a line but a crowd of loud losers who later on harassed me when I got split up from the group. It was one of those moments when you see a friend in the crowd and you greet them hello, long time no see, and when you turn to leave, no one you know is around, even the friend you just spoke with. Instead, you’re surrounded by a huge group of stinking jologs who look more like disgusting hounds that kept on spraying trash talk (talsik laway ba!). At times like these, looking very girl isn’t a great advantage.

I shoved 3 of them out of my way and saw Ernan and Carlo from afar walking back to find me. Quark was at the other entrance with less idiots and we squeezed our way in. My angry adrenalin was unbelievably high, so I kept quiet until I finally got to smoke in the VIP area. I also had some tasty chicken lollipops and empanaditas. Mmmm. There was no beer, though.

There were lots of celebrities like Aubrey Miles, Michelle Bayle, the Mustang Girls (if you can call them celebrities), Mark Nelson, and Regine Tolentino. We were peacefully looking at all these beautiful people when we heard screaming and howling at the entrance. The divider of the VIP area started shaking and we realized that the crowd had broken in. They unscrewed the glass doors and took them apart and the poor security guards couldn’t do anything about it. After that incident, everyone just kept on walking in whether or not htey had invites.

When it was time to announce the Best Rock Video Award, we braved the crowd that smelled of sweat, body odor and, to my disappointment, joots. There were people holding skateboards and throwing water bottles and ballooned condoms into the air. We made our to the front just in time for the announcement: The winner is the video directed by...Quark Henares! Woohoo! We were in the middle of the crowd and they didn’t exactly react too well, but we didn’t care. We cheered and waved and smiled at each other. My friends won for a good video.

I actually had high hopes for the Down video because it had the cleanest shots and a clean edit; and most of all, it looked like a lot of fun. So I’m very happy for my friends. :)

How long did we stay in that crowd? 10 minutes tops maybe? I’m pretty claustrophobic, especially when I don’t like the crowd. I enjoyed staying at the back more. :) I saw my cousin Roselle who works for Sony and I was a little shocked to see that their Sony display was empty. I thought that some of their stuff got stolen. Apparently, the staff hid them when the people barged in earlier. Smart.

Lia and I went to the CR and when we came back, almost everyone was missing. She went backstage with Quark while I stayed outside with Ramon. We were watching the show on a little TV in the lobby and when Carlo came out, the 3 of us were photographed for Seventeen Mag. Nakam! Chris, Joey and Ernan suddenly appeared out of the blue and Tammy took our picture in the lobby. I wonder if she’ll put it in the Inquirer. Nyar! We went inside the awards area again but we still kept our place in the back. Chris, Carlo and Ernan were wearing leather jackets (well, Ernan’s looked like a leather jacket na hindi) and just for kicks, they decided to have a NO SMILING! picture with me in the middle. No smiling? Ack! Alexis took the picture with Carlo’s spice cam and it came out pretty cool. Haha! Yuck, feeling! I hate not smiling because I always come out weird-looking, but it was still a cool picture nonetheless. :) I wonder who has it? I’ve to give it to my new Agent Sansan! Haha!

We had a fun joking around at the back with Mico, Sansan, Jorem and Cris. Carlo and I were also glad to see Retiro and Verzo, friends of ours from high school. Earlier on, I also saw Mac Arevalo. Then I saw Eric Hotchkiss a little after the show. Anyway, back to standing around, I was getting a little praning because someone actually did more than just brush against my behind, if you know what I mean. So I had the guys stand around me and we created a human fortress! Hehe. When we got tired of standing, we moved out again and sat around the little TV in the VIP area. We saw Justin who oddly enough was wearing eyeliner. His band Boldstar won Best New Artist, so we congratulated him and his dimples. :) A few more celebrities were there, including Greg Martin and former MYX VJ Clara Balaguer. Alexis and I saw Chris' new gay model friend (Haha! Joke lang. But really, Chris' impersonation of the guy/gay was so funny!), and I said hello to a college friend who was with a very, VERY cute half European date. Yeehee!

Chicosci was playing inside and the singer got a piece of trash thrown at him on stage. He picked up the basura behind him and against the bouncer’s instructions, he threw it back into the crowd. Okey, he just threw basura at his own fans. I mean think about it! The majority of the fans of these bands are really rowdy and it’s actually sad because they’re cheering for you, screaming and moshing and there you are trying to perform and getting basura thrown at you. What the hell? And when Cheese played, aaay! All these crazy people were on stage head banging like there was no tomorrow, as if they didn't have any brains shaking violently in their craniums! And the poor singer was just trying to keep his cool even if he had very little stage space left! Sigh. Sometimes I pity these bands, and I think that the bouncers were a little too nice.

The show ended pretty early for a rock event and as expected, there was a lot of trash on the floor. We said hello to Marc, finally found a very happy Mich who had her picture taken with her crush, and said goodbye to Hannah and Goldie. Carlo went home, and Quark had to bring Lia home, so the rest of us headed over to the new Gilligan’s in front of Park Square. It was a really cool place. A little sosyal than usual, but still great because they still served the best sisig in the metro. Well, the best sisig second to Dencio’s. We also tried some chicken terriyaki toppings and adobo rice and all of it was very yummy. Mich was all smiles, so she treated us to beer and we started our very own Make-A-Wish Foundation. Well, it’s more of a Get-A-Picture-With-Your-Favorite-Local-Celebrity Project. The deal is that you have to treat everybody to beer when you get your picture with your favorite celeb. Haha! So bring out your showbiz contacts and help us make our wishes come true! Heehee.

If I have my picture taken with Gary V, we're not just having beer...we're having a hyoooge parteh!!! Mwa-a-a-a-a!!!

In light of Steph's corned beef post, Migs sent me an article on Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser. It said horrible things.

Until 1997, those cows, by nature designed to be herbivorous, were fed "livestock waste" -- rendered remains of dead sheep and cattle, along with the remains of millions of dead cats and dogs purchased every year from animal shelters. Thank God the law was changed: Now they're fed only the remains of horses, pigs and poultry.

Yuck!

What's weird is that I've read a lot of articles like this. There was one about KFC, that they don't actually serve fried chicken. Instead, they grow these, these…things that look like headless chickens that have already been plucked. They grow meat! Weird. That's why they're called KFC now and not Kentucky Fried Chicken because according to whoever's in charge of all these fast food chains, they don't serve chicken.

There was also one about Kenny Rogers. Their chickens are undercooked and their pitas have worms.

The Burger King staff in Katipunan don't wear plastic gloves. So they make the sandwiches with their bear hands. The same sandwich people handle the cash register sometimes and rush back to make sandwiches for their rushing customers. The gross part is that you can SEE them making your sandwich with their hands.

And yet we still eat in these places! Why? Coz their food just taste so darn good!

Personally, I don't think I can stop eating meat just because I saw or read something bad about how they're made. Well, maybe I won’t eat as much, but how can you give up tasty meat? Like how can you give up corned beef? The email only attacked Argentina, but still.

Sometimes I feel bad when I see trucks filled with chickens or pigs. They’re all cramped up in a yucky truck, stuck in traffic and burning in the sun. I’ve told myself a few times that I’d never eat chicken or pig again. Then I get home and I see fried chicken or breaded pork chop and I’m like ah, screw guilt.

It’s kind of like smoking. I used to be a Bio Major and I’ve read all sorts of things on smoking. I used to be non-smoker myself, the lonely No Smoking Campaign in the house. And now I can’t stop.

Dang, I’m confused now. I’ve mixed feelings about all this. I’m addicted to icky meat and smoking. I think I’ll go eat some of Manang’s banana-q. Labo! :p

>Mich’s world.

Last Tuesday, the Wednesday Group went to the MTV Fashionista Best Model Search 2002 in the NBC Tent. Mich designed the clothes of 2 models and Sarah Meier, who was a judge for the contest.

In Mich’s invitation, she said to dress up. Apparently, you have to be dressed for these things so that you could be given a good seat. My theory is that since there’re so many cameras taking pictures of the ramp models, it would suck if someone crappy-looking was seated in the background. But I slept in the office Sunday to Tuesday and I didn’t know that Mich had a show, so I just came in my usual shirt, jeans and rubber shoes. Well, at least my shirt was cute. I wore an SBC shirt that said If you pack with us, we’ll pack with you! on the back.

I saw Rajo there, so I said hello. He was talking to Wilma Doesnt who, to my shock, was pregnant. She was wearing a long but very fitted dress, so her basketball for a stomach was out there. She was funny and loud as usual, sort of like a Pinay version of Tyra Banks in the sense that she’s so talkative and funny.

I also saw an old friend of my sisters who now works for MTV now and when I asked why the show was taking so long to start, he just said, "Hey, I just handle the banners and stuff." Haha! Okay. :)

Sarah Meier was very cute and she looked really good in Mich’s dress. She was also very tall, even if she was just in sneakers. We met her after the show and Chris got a really cute picture with her. (If you like her, too, then go over to his blog and die of envy. :) He was so happy that he treated all of us to a beer each in Dencio's and wore this I can die now smile all night..

The show was ok. Well, it was kind of boring to watch the same models go up and down the ramp about 5 to 8 times, and the spiels of the hosts (Model Rissa Mananquil-Samson, Breakfast's former reporter Angel Jacob and some corp-looking guy from MTV Philippines.) were pretty bad. The presentation of the models and the stage setup was pretty cool, though, and on each side of the ramp was a platform that moved forward and backwards while the models posed on them.

The videos in the background were most impressive. They were edited by Furball, Inc. and projected on 3 large screens on stage. I asked Ramon how they could have edited them and he said that they probably edited everything individually and then stacked 3 monitors on top of each other so they could choreograph everything properly. Shit, that’s hard work. Knox, who joined us later in the show, works with Furball now and she edited some parts of the videos. Cool.

I forgot how many models competed, but we instantly became Dos’ cheering squad. Hehe. And he won First Runner Up! Galing! I tried to take a picture of him, but I was using Chris’ camera and for some reason, I always screw up with the half press thingy, so I only got his back. Great. I should really get myself an Alia-proof camera. So, for a silly souvenir, I stole Dos’ Class Clown picture from the display near the entrance. Heehee. And Ramon’s going to scan it soon and post it on his blog! Hehe.

After the show, we went to the dressing room backstage to help Mich with her stuff. I’ve been to a fashion show’s dressing room several times and there’s really no room for one to feel shy about everyone dressing up with no care. It was full and messy with clothes and makeup everywhere, but I loved the fact that everyone was so cheerful and kissy and huggy-huggy.

***
Last night, Mich had what she calls the Tropa Session where some of us helped burn cloth, rip cloth, crochet and what not for her new collection. I enjoyed crocheting the most. I felt very relaxed, remembering HE classes in Zobel and picturing my possible future as a crocheting lola. Honey, you want me to make you a coaster? Or do you want a sweater instead? Pero winner pa rin si Goldie: Pasok, labas, Pasok, labas.

I was enjoying myself so much that I didn’t realize ‘til after that I was doing what Mich does for work. Most of us are in print, film and video production, but Mich’s work is different. She produces clothes and looks and this difference is like a good break for me. This difference also makes our group all the more interesting because of we have a sort of diversity that gives us an interesting variety of things to do and to talk about.

***
Mich is coming out on the cover of Mega Magazine, so watch out for that. Oh, and Alexis modeled for a magazine shoot but I forget what. So watch out for him, too. And please buy the Jan-Feb issue of Seventeen Mag because Quark and Joey Brash are going to be in it. I think the feature is called Movers and Shakers. :)

*By the way, check out the link of Rissa Samson. Andyan si Mich. Yeehee!

>The best and friendliest video librarian ever!

I love Kathleen. She works in our video library, meaning she handles all the tapes and the stock footage from all of Probe Productions' shows, even The Probe Team's footage from nineteen kopong-kopong. As in we still have umatic tapes in there, which in my my opinion should be destroyed forever! Well, after the footage is dubbed out to beta of course.

My biggest fault to Kathleen is that I always forget to ask for tapes early. Whenever I have a shoot, I run to her the day before with this sheepish smile that could only mean I need tapes and I need them now. I'm so sorry, Kathleen. Then she'll just frown a bit and ask me ilan? with her little disappointed voice.

But this week, I asked for my tapes 4 days before the shoot! Nakampucha! And the best part about asking for tapes early is that when she leaves them on your desk, they're labeled with a smiley! Alia =). Hey, even Gretchen has tapes on her desk! Gretch =). All of a sudden, I don't feel so bad about shooting on a Saturday morning.

I love her and I love this office. There's just so much love here. My only wish is that it were closer to my house. Hehe.

>Yey, I'm home! Kahit hanggang 630am lang, basta may kama! Woohoo!

I just got home from the Manila Bulletin's Just For Kicks' First Anniversary Party in Dish. We write for the Gameplanet column, so we sat at the columnists' table. Wow, special. :) I even saw a friendly waiter named Rhon (yes, Rhon with and "h") whom I met during Rex's show a month ago. He was serving at the buffet table and he remembered me, so he gave me and my friends extra large servings. Nyahahaha!

Izza and Sarah Black were models for the fashion show and they looked really good. Plus, the other models weren't that great, so they stood out even more and they got the loudest cheers. Izza's ever-supportive boyfriend Tiger was there, and the hosts were a guy named Mojojo (who works with Manila Bull) and some MTV VJ named Anna something who in my opinion looked like she just kept on trying to sound sexy. Come on, that can't be the real way she talks! But I must admit that she'd make a good voice talent for radio and TV.

They were giving away a Samsung phone, but you had to text in to win. Poor me, disqualified agad for having no phone. So I just memorized the number for my officemates so that they could join. I don't know if they won, though, because I had to go meet my sister so that we could drive home together. They did have difficulty sending their answers, though, because there was hardly any signal in the place, so even the hosts weren't getting that many messages. Wawa. And I can also imagine the poor Globe operators at the time: Why is everybody texting this 0916 number? Fucking text contests!!!

***
I've been in the office since Thursday and I slept there so that I could view some tapes overnight. But when I left my house Thursday morn, what did I do? I left my phone! Aw, Lumos! I'm sorry I left you!

I was the more pathetic one. I had no phone for 2 days, and I've a shoot tomorrow, and I had to schedule a VO, a script-check and a lot of other things. Even going home with my sister became difficult to plan without my phone. Oh my gulay, I felt so helpless. When you're so used to having everything in your cellphone and then you don't have it, it's like the end of the world. Well, almost like the end of the world.

What really irritated me actually was that I'd hear a toot-toot and check if it was my phone. Then I'd realize tanga! You don't have a phone. Sigh.

Anyway, salamat and I'm finally home with my phone. Yey, an alarm clock! Hehe. Good night, world. I've to wake up early because I'm going to shoot pankration in Pasig a few hours. It's aka submission fighting. Hooah! Does anyone wanna watch the ala UFC tournament of Alvin Aguilar next weekend? Just lemme know. It's gonna be a really brutal rumble (I hope.). Yeba!

Time to sleep! Yippee! :)

>I finally saw a movie today. :)

Expelliarmus!

Draco and Harry in the Wizard's Duel.

My officemates and I watched the first screening of Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets this morning. Yup! We all missed work, including Boss Joy. Haha! Well, she was the one who gave the order anyway! Call time: 9am in the office! We’ve to be in Galle by 10!

Karen reserved tickets the night before for herself and her boyfriend Mico (whom I should include in my one of the best guitarists in the country list), Boss Joy, Gie, Gretch, Ramil, and me. Too bad Camille wasn’t around. She’s probably going to see it in New York anyway, but we couldn’t help but recall her comeback with these noisy girls in Harry Potter 1 last year.

Ditzes: Tapos sabi niya sa akin na wala naman akong kasalanan tapos...
Camille: Can you please be quiet!
Ditzes: (In a very Nancy Castiliogne in the Red Horse ad tone.) Sorry.
Camille: You’d better be.

Yeba!

Anyway, I loved the movie! It was really nice and fun and exciting. Kinda made me miss school, investigating rumors and trying to get someone convicted for a violation, fixing barkada fights and doctor-ing short quizzes (Short quizzes lang ha! We weren’t that brave to doctor long exams. :) It had lots of cheese in it, of course, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. I liked Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy, and Kenneth Branagh as the wizard with a winning smile Gilderoy Lockhart. Sobrang bagay. Ron is still my favorite, Hermione is getting prettier (As Karen said, nag-pluck na siya ng eyebrows! Haha!), and I want to have a son who looks like Harry (Varsity athlete pa siya! Naks!)! And a daughter who looks like Ginny! Oh, and Tom Riddle is kinda cute :), and Oliver Wood isn't as cute as before, pero ok pa rin. Hehe. I can't wait to see who will be playing Sirius Black and Bill Weasly in the next movies! I'm excited!

The movie was also 3 hours long, but I didn’t feel that it dragged at all. And you can’t say that it was because I had already read Book 2 because I read it a year ago and had forgotten a lot of details since then. I couldn’t even remember the name of the owner of Mrs. Norris (See! I still don’t remember his name now!!!) But I must admit that I was a little horrified when I saw the movie sked. First screening: 1130am. Next: 250pm. Whoa! Shit, Joy! Do we really have to go back to work?!?!

We all ate before watching the movie, but I knew that I was going to get hungry in the middle of it. So I ate a Smokey’s Chicago Dog (Which Mico hated because of the smell. BURP!!!) during the beginning and enjoyed a cold Burger King chicken sandwich near the end. Yummeh!

PS. I love Snape!
PPS. I miss Richard Harris.

***
The last 3 movies I saw before Harry Potter 2 were The Importance of Being Earnest, BatangWest Side, and the Hollywood remake of The Ring. I saw The Importance of Being Earnest with Joey Brash and Alexis. It was for the first movie screening of the Ayala Cinema Coffee Club last October 15. It was a good movie. Funny, witty, I forget who the actors were, though. All I remember are Reese Witherspoon, Rupert Everett, Judi Dench, and the father from In the Bedroom (Now there’s a good movie! Pretentious art film my ass.). I’ve never read the original play by Oscar Wilde, but I still enjoyed the movie.

After the movie was the “coffee club” discussion...in a non-smoking area. Oh well. Sure they served Seattle’s best coffee, but I’m not a coffee drinker. It makes me sleepy. Some popular people in film were there...and again, I forget their names. Hehe! I thought that the discussion started ok. Only a few people were talking, but later on they started talking about the history of Oscar Wilde, how he was gay, he had a hard life, blah, blah. Ok, I respect everyone’s knowledge of the story, the original author, all the name-dropping and shit, but I don’t think that they were really talking about the movie anymore.

Later on, the discussion turned a little sour. There was a debate over how the clash of the classes was portrayed in the movie. Debates are cool and bringing up good points and asking good questions are great, but if you can’t be open enough to accept that you could be wrong, then I suggest you keep quiet.

I said nothing the whole time. For one I was sleepy. Two, I was shy as usual. And three, I enjoyed the movie, so I didn’t want anyone to really to ruin it for me. Hehe.

***
I watched Batang West Side during the first screening of Flip Magazine’s Movie Club last October 29. Neva and Le Sexy Mark work for Flip, so I really wanted to support their event. Plus I heard a lot of mixed reactions about the film, so I wanted to see it for myself. Actor Joel Torre and director Lav Diaz were present for the open forum that was scheduled after the viewing. Not that I was going to stay that long because the movie was 5 HOURS LONG!!! It was supposed to start at 7pm and I had to go back to work right after so there was no way that I was going to stay for a discussion that I know I won’t even contribute to anyway. Hehe.

The movie started really late, though. About 830 I think, so that pretty pissed me off. By the time it started, I was so sleepy that I missed the first hour. Joel Torre’s walking, walking...walking...ZZzzzz. When I woke up, I told Lia that I felt bad about falling asleep, but she said that I still had 4 hours to catch up anyway and she was right. I was still able to follow the story and I liked what the director was trying to do, but man, what a drag. The movie was just too darn long. Joey Brash stood in the corridor, I think to stretch his legs, while Lia, Ernan and I stepped out for a smoke. The only ones who really sat through it all were Ramon and Quark.

There was a 15-minute break before the last 2 hours. God, 2 hours! Thank goodness they were giving out fee Coke to keep me up. I didn’t want to waste the experience. Well, I already wasted an hour, so...

The movie finally ended at what, 2am? They served delicious hot lugaw and I thought that that was really sweet. It was a good upper for tired old me who still had to stay up and edit something somehow. I was too tired for the open forum, though, so Ernan and I just got a cab and rode north.

My take on the movie is this. I’m amazed with the effort of the director, the crew, the actors, everybody; but I think that it was just way too long. It’s not that movies should be short, but it just dragged too much and in the end I wasn’t even that touched by it. I thought, maybe it was because I was trained to crunch things up. I work for a 30-minute sports show with 6 to 7-minute segments. Put in what’s important but make the story as full as possible. But this movie just has so many shots that don’t necessarily need to be taken out but they could’ve been shortened. And there were some inconsistencies that I just couldn’t get out of my head.

The movie was interesting. I felt that it really wanted to reach, but sad to say, it didn’t reach me. Maybe because I fell asleep. :p

*I found out that the original edit of Batang West Side was actually 6 hours. Oh my God! And now Lav Diaz is working on his next movie. How long is it going to be? 8 hours! Hmmm. I want to see it, but I think I’m going to have to sleep all day to get through that.:)

Quark treated the Wednesday Group to a screening of Dreamworks' The Ring in the Viva Cinema theater for his birthday 2 weeks ago. It was a cool theater with a few seats, my dream theater when I have my own house, except I'm going to allow food and drinks and, occassionally, smoking. :)

The movie really freaked me out of my wits. I usually enjoy horror movies, but this time I ended up crying. Ugh. Some funny moments were Mich walking in the dark in her Sadako outfit and me getting scared fo the projectionist's shadow in the booth. Other than that, I was really scared.

The movie was ok. It was very Hollywood, so I'm sure the Japanese version is way scarier. I wanted to watch it, but I was late for the BYC screening the day after. Oh well. I'll just borrow the dvds one day and force my sisters to watch with me. Hehe. I'll strap Bianca to the couch so that she won't be able to escape the horror! Mwahaha!

>Hala.

Alice the GFX girl came up to me today and asked, "Ikaw ba yung kumain ng pizza kagabi?"

Dadadadaaaaan!!! Hahaha!!!

>'Nakaw!!!

Data and Eva of the late 5&Up were here in the office with Cynthia a few hours ago (when it was still Sunday). Cynthia bought a Yellow Cab vegetarian pizza and left 2 slices in the fridge.

It's 1am and I'm hungry.

I went to the kitchen to make another bowl of Nissins and to have my one tablespoon of honey to wake me up. I keep my honey in the office fridge so when I opened it, there they were: 2 slices of pizza. I don't usually get food without permission, but I was so hungry and the pizza just looks so good. I thought I'd just leave a note, or leave some money, or if the incident's brought up inthe Monday Meeting later, I'll deny everything.

Then it hit me...Cynthia doesn't work here!

I only took one slice (Yes, I have a conscience.) and heated it in the oven. I was also preparing my noodles and after a while, I realized that I had set the microwave to 2 minutes. Ulp! The bell rang and I took out my overheated pizza. I actually like burnt pizza, but this was so burnt that I got cramps just trying to slice the darn thing. Kutob mo nakarma ako?

Still, the excitement of taking someone else's food from the fridge was pretty fun (And yes, I admit...very shallow!). I remember my first steal...I was 9, and I stole a math notebook from South Supermarket. Oh God, how shallow and square can I possibly be?!?!

Join the Biodiversity 10k Run in UP Diliman for the Haribon Foundaiton. Registration fee is about less than 200 bucks and all the proceeds will go the foundation.

At first I thought, shit, another race. Baka hindi ko kaya. Whatsmore, it’s 10k. But when Vida told me that the top prize was a P5,000 gift certificate for Salomon products, I was blown away! Salomon! Woohoo! Count me in!!!

Oh! And Vida’s going to be a marshal there. If you know her, she might help you cheat. Haha! Joke lang Vida. :)

>It's been a really long day...

I don’t have much time to write, but I just want to say that Team GamePlan (composed of Captain Carlo "OC" Ledesma, Akiko "The Olympian" Thomson and Rovilson "Da Kabayo" Fernandez) won the Media Category and the overall award in the Samsung AXN Challenge this morning. That's right! They were the very first team to cross the finish line after racing about 25k of running, rappelling, traversing, trivia games, orienteering, and biking in a little over 3 hours.

Unfortunately, a very dehydrated Carlo, who only had the spirit and the heart (and I mean a HUGE heart) to fuel himself in the final stretch, collapsed at the finish line in Glorietta. Rovilson had to carry him and it was a truly dramatic moment, not to mention terrifying since Karen and I acted as the team's support crew and we didn't know what to do. The medics were missing, but luckily, the Makati police arrived. I almost gave him water when the policeman stopped me and said that I might drown his airways. He was unconscious but still breathing, and his eyes were still open which I found that freaky. We carried him into the police car and he was rushed to Makati Med. Karen accompanied him to the ER and it took him a long while to come to, but when he regained consciousness, he had temporary amnesia and could not see clearly.

The team finished before noon. At about 3, we got the message that Carlo was doing alright and had to be confined for observation.

Team GamePlan and the Juice people hung out in CPK while the scores were being tallied. We saw Ernie and Jeena Lopez’ adorable toddler Blade, and Dyan Castillejo’s very gwapo baby boy, whose name I do not know. Really cute kids! Yippee! :)

The awarding ceremony started at 430. The First Runner-Up in the School Category was this very young group from Ateneo. Woohoo! They looked so cute in their Blue Eagles jerseys. The Champion was a team from UP, but I don’t think it was the team of Tals Uy (Otherwise known as the Bionic Woman of Del Monte 202's The Great Outdoor Race 2002.).

The second category was the Media Category, which we competed in, but I'll get back to that later. The third was the Open Category and the First Runner-Up was Team AMCI. I didn't know the female racer, but I knew Ige and Baron who raced in the Hong Kong AXN Challenge that we covered back in April of this year.

Before the champion was announced, Thumbie Remigio, famous for being the Captain of Team Tribu (Ever heard of Tribu Sandals? Buy them!!! :) and the course setter of all the Urban Jungle races of 2001 and GamePlan's Del Monte 202 Race last April, was ranting about all his race mishaps, including his first cramp ever in his entire life. He thought that they didn’t have a chance, but when TJ said that Team Jologs won, Thumbie's girlfriend Popo Nagtalon (One of the best triathletes in the country.) screamed and Thumbie's eyes got really wide with surprise! For the first time, he was SPEECHLESS! He and his team composed of UP Dragon Boat Captain Noelle Wenceslao and military man File ran to the stage and started screaming! The crowd went wild, Thumbie looked like he was about to cry for joy for the first time after a really, REALLY long time. Everyone was really happy for them.

The Media Category was made up of teams with celebrities or representives of TV shows or media groups. The team of model Illac Diaz and Mark Leviste got in 3rd while Team Juice ranked 4th. Team Juice's racers were former Gameplanners Paolo Abrera, Annarod and Half Iron Man competitor Ren, while their support crew was the dynamic duo Jake de Guzman and Suzi Abrera (Who should've won "The Prettiest Support Crew" award. Hehe.). The First Runner-Up prize went to Team Kulelat. The original team members were ABS-CBN Publishing and Play Underground's Ernie Lopez and his good friend Marty Villarica (who also competed in The Hong Kong AXN Challenge) and they raced with Sports Unlimited's Dyan Castillejo.

Finally, event host TJ Manotoc announced the champion of the Media Category and as we hoped, it was Team GamePlan. I kind of feel bad that we didn't cover this particular event, the one adventure race that our hosts actually championed, but their win was enough exposure for the show and for them. The crowd went wild since we already know met most of them from the local races that we've covered over the years, and it was amazing to get congratulations from the top adventure racers in the country.

As Akiko and Rovilsion were walking to the stage, TJ said something really nice about them: Team GamePlan...they don't just host it! They do it! Thanks so much, TJ! :)

I think that after placing 6th in Urban Jungle Manila 2001 (Their first shot at adventure racing when Tricia still had a good knee and ws racing like a femmebot.), and 3rd in Urban Jungle Manila Baguio (Where I raced in Tricia's place. God, I don't think I can look at Baguio the same way again.), our hosts really wanted to prove that they were athletes, too. Well, they surely proved themselves today, not to mention Carlo who literally gave the race and the team all the energy that he had, down to the last drop of body fluid.

We passed by the hospital after the awarding and Carlo was pretty much back to normal, cracking jokes, making fun of Rovilson and checking out all his new stuff from the champion prize package (Which included a Samsung watch, a Samsung jacket, Colt beer and lighters, an X-Zone AXN cap, and a freakin' Salomon hydration bag. Shit! Ganda! Oh, and don't forget the team's prize money: $900! Caching, caching!). His parents, younger sister Gabby and girlfriend Mel were there and they told us stories about Carlo in the ER. Well, they were pretty serious and scary, but in the end we were just joking about the whole thing, about how Carlo didn't recognize me and how the doctors had to cut up one of his favorite racing shirts. I think that laughter helps a lot, especially after experiencing something as scary as collapsing like an imploding building infront of people, opponents, and, of course, CAMERAS! Haha! Aw. All hail Captain OC! :)

***
Lesson for the day: Brush up on first aid.

***
While waiting for the other racers to arrive before the 230pm cutoff, bands such as Greyhoundz and the like played for the crowd, but they were a little too heavy for an event like this. Someone said that the organizers thought hey, adventure racing is the extreme, man! So we'd better get extrememly heavy bands! Well let me tell you something. In all the races I've covered for GamePlan, the usual music has always been reggae. After a really hard day, these racers don't want to feel angst and anger and guilt and (scream like Cheese.) waaaaahhh!!! They need something relaxing, happy, and uplifting. And most of them are ourdoors-y people (a term I learned from Maggie. :) which is why reggae fits just fine.

Sayang. Wrong move. A lot of the racers, including us, went into the restaurants until the awarding ceremony.

***
I just saw the Studio23 plug of Alias and the show is DUBBED IN TAGALOG! Shitty.

***
It’s GO on AXN. I love this movie. It’s so darn funny! Thanks to Maggie who gave me the VHS. :)

***
I’m finally watching HBO’s Six Feet Under and I absolutely love the OBB. Beautiful. I also like the fade to white transitions. They really enhance the mood of the series.

Apparently, I did have lots of time to write. Heehee! :)

>Good thoughts to end my day with. :)

I just came from Mark's Walang Payat Gang gig in Sanctum just now. Way cool. I still think that Mark's the best guitarist in the country, aside from the first guitarist of P.O.T. His name escapes me, though. Anyway, Triccia, one of the owners of Sanctum, loves WPG to death; so I think that says something about them, right?

Hope you guys check them out when Mark comes back in January. If you live in the South, you can watch them tonight in Ylo's along Pres. Ave near Sucat's Mcdo.

Ozzy, pumunta ka na! Hehe. I won't be able to go, though. Nye.

This is one of the best little stories that I've read.

A hermit was meditating by a river when a young man interrupted him. "Master, I wish to become your disciple," said the man. "Why?" replied the hermit. The young man thought for a moment. "Because I want to find God."

The master jumped up, grabbed him by the scruff of his neck, dragged him into the river, and plunged his head under water. After holding him there for a minute, with him kicking and struggling to free himself, the master finally pulled him up out of the river. The young man coughed up water and gasped to get his breath. When he eventually quieted down, the master spoke. "Tell me, what did you want most of all when you were under water."

"Air!" answered the man.

"Very well," said the master. "Go home and come back to me when you want God as much as you just wanted air."

>The things I discover at 3 in the morning in this office filled with ghosts and the humming of voltage regulators.

Recently found out that Aubrey Miles was the girl who acted in SPO Jason's Mozcom plug a few months back. We were all amused by that plug. Aubrey wasn't flashing sexy in jeans and a shirt, but she was cute, sitting on the floor, typing on the laptop on top of a coffee table. She look so amused with how fast her internet server was. Hehe.

Don't you find it funny when actors get wide-eyed infront of a computer? I do. And I'm not saying that her acting was bad or that the plug sucked. I just found the whole thing funny. :)

Anyway, we started joking about how SPO Jason was actually her first director! And and to this he replied, "Act for me and I'll make you a star!" Charing!

I've been eating Froggy's Nissin's Prime Beef Noodles for 2 weeks now. I had to replace them, so Ramil and I walked over to Glori's and we discovered that the noodles are just 4 bucks when they're not in those instant cups! Wow! Why didn't we think of buying this crap before?!?!

I bought 4 packs for Froggy, 1 pack for Chinchin and 3 packs for me. I'm already on my second pack right now and i'm telling you, Nissin's Prime Beef Noodles is the bomb!!! Way better than it's cup noodles counterpart! Yummeh!!!

There is no spork.

...No, really! We don't have a single spork in our office kitchen. I figured that we'd save more if we did. Most of us are lazy to wash our own dishes anyway, so why not minimize what we have to wash? If we had sporks, that would be washing minus one utensil. Save water, save on labor, everyone's happy!

There's a new ghost here who knows how to shutdown computers. Great.

Hmmm...or maybe it's just Screech (Whom I think is a little girl running around with her shoes squeaking like hell.). Maybe she figured, hey! There're about 20 computers in this place! Might as well learn how to use them so I can spook more producers at night. Mwa-a-a-a-a!!!

Sige, Screech! Takbu-takbo ka na lang d'yan, but don't you DARE touch my computah!!!

SP Jason and I are taking a break watching Whose Line Is It Anyway and it's my favorite combo right now! Ryan, Collin, Wayne, and my crush Chip! Yippee!!! Chips is soooo cute, and I pray to God he isn't gay!

I've been laughing so hard so hard since The Drew Carey Show earlier, so I got hungry and SP Jason was nice enough to give me his spare ribs pancit canton. Labo, no? Actually it was pretty good, but also a little difficult to make because it wasn't in a cup noodles package. Nope! It was in a good ol' packette.

Darn it! The show's over! Well, back to work. i love you, Chip! Woohoo!!!

I finally figured out how to put the darn post info and comments scripts AFTER my posts. Now it's not so confusing to comment on my blog, even for me.

Leche. Naduling ako dun a! I think I'm gonna eat some noodles!!!

>*Snort* *Chuckle* *Shhh*

Was inspired by Mich and Meg to try this thing out and the resulting story is, um...I dunno. I'm in the office so I can't laugh out loud, but I'm still tearing up because, well, I don't understand the fucking story!

FAIRY TALE

Once upon a time there was a young RAPIST named RAMONES. He was ULUL TADYAK-ING in the FLUSHED forest when he met INHUMAN CARLO, a run-away GARBOLOGIST from the MATIGYAWAT Queen NIKKI.

RAMONES could see that INHUMAN CARLO was hungry so he reached into his BALDE and give him his TANGA FISH PELLETS. INHUMAN CARLO was thankful for RAMONES's FISH PELLETS, so he told RAMONES a very DI TULI story about Queen NIKKI's daughter NEVA. How her mother, the MATIGYAWAT Queen NIKKI, kept her locked away in a KASTILYONG BUHANGIN protected by a gigantic DRAGON FIN, because NEVA was so JABARRR.

RAMONES EXORCISED. He vowed to INHUMAN CARLO the GARBOLOGIST that he would save the JABARRR NEVA. He would COOK the DRAGONFIN, and take NEVA far away from her evil mother, the MATIGYAWAT Queen NIKKI, and SUCKLE her.

Then, all of the sudden, there was a BAKTONG EBAK and INHUMAN CARLO the GARBOLOGIST began to laugh. With a puff of smoke he turned into the gigantic DRAGON FIN from his story. MATIGYAWAT Queen NIKKI SWALLOWED out from behind a MY-METAL PEN and struck RAMONES dead. In the far off KASTILYONG BUHANGIN you could hear a KOKAK.

THE END.

I think Neva and Ramon are gonna kill me. Nikki...she doesn't visit my blog anyway. Pero si Carlo, well...eh! Walang pake 'yon! Hehe.

>Halloween was a blast!!!

I love Halloween! It’s the one night when you can dress up as someone else and people will find you cool when you look completely un-you. It’s also a fun time to be creative.

My costume usually depends on the current length of my hair. When my hair was below my shoulders, I was Madonna in her Frozen video, complete with a black cape. When I cut my hair in Junior year, I was Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) from The Matrix. In Senior year, I was Madonna again, but this time in her Tell Me video. I didn’t have blonde hair, but I got the getup right down to the cowboy dance steps. And last year, still a little obsessed with Counter Strike, I was a Counter-Terrorist in a black attire from my sister and a black cap from Vida. I had black lines under my eyes, a Steyr Aug rifle (Which Diego broke. Huhu.), and 2 handguns (Para ‘pag drop weapon, diba? Naks! Kumpleto!).

I was supposed to be Rurouni Kenshin this year, but I didn’t get to grow my hair. Hell, I can’t even tie it into a ponytail yet! So I opted to search for some short-haired women that I could copy. Last Wednesday, I was decided on dressing up as Angela Chase (Claire Danes) in My So-Called Life. I was even practicing her blank big-eyed stare, but I didn’t have a long floral blouse to wear under my plaid polo. So on the day itself, I saw Carla’s blazer and thought, hey! I can be Dana Scully! Yeba!

Bianca and I started searching the house for X-Files pictures of Gillian Anderson. My sisters are huge fans of the show, but alas, they only had pictures of David Duchovny and Mitch Pileggi. (Why would we have pictures of Scully, noh? -Bianca). Well, we did find one Rolling Stone POSTER, but Duchovny and Anderson were naked! Hay. By the way, the issue it came in was pretty cool.

Anyway, I wanted to look really un-Alia, so I went to the ACC parlor and asked Danny to dye my hair light brown (I didn’t want to dye it copper because that would’ve been too drastic of a change for me. :). Then I went to Miggy’s house to borrow a pair of slacks and make an FBI ID. Miggy downloaded Scully’s real ID from an auction site, so we just printed it out and taped it over my office ID. Miggy’s really OC when he makes stuff. He actually made an Energizer Bunny mask for a play in Sophomore high school, and 3 years ago he was Chef (Isaac Hayes) from Southpark. He had a beard and he taped 2 fake eyebrows on his chef’s hat, so you could move them around and make him look angry, sad or mataray. Hehe. Anyway, the ID looked real swell, and it was the only thing besides my hair that really made me look like Scully.

After dinner, I drove Bianca (I have no idea what she was supposed to be. She a Nike Dr. Funk shirt, a Speedo skirt and orange socks with green stripes and green manicure prints for each of her toes.) to her party in our village, picked up Jomi’s blazer for Chris’ costume and headed north to his place to meet the rest of the Wednesday Group.

I got to Chris’ place where Quark and Alexis were waiting. While Chris was figuring out what to use as blood on his shirt, I went down to Mich’s place to see how she, Lia, Goldie, and Hannah were doing. Ernan and Knox came by later on and we all drove to Greenbelt Mall to meet Ramon, Neva, Joey, and Margie in Tim Yap’s party...and the result was a totally hilarious Halloween!

If I were rich, I would've bought green contacts as well.

This is my picture as Dana Scully c/o Ramon the Battle Chef!

For a complete rundown of who was who and what fun we had that night, please go over to Chris and Ramon’s blogs. They’re posts are really funny, and complete with pictures, too! Neva has some polaroids, too, but I don't know if she's going to post them.

By the way, Mich’s costume was the bomb. I feel bad that she wasn’t able to join the best in costume contest, but hey! She was still a looker. I tell you, her skirt was making heads swing!

Thanks for a wonderful time, guys!!!

>Just like old times.

Two of my high school friends came over for some alcohol, cigarettes, and a lot of heartwarming and extremely hilarious talk. They just left a few minutes ago, and man, was it fun! It’s been a while since I’ve had high school friends over for some beer. Actually, a lot of beer. :) I remember drinking with some friends last year when I found out that I was losing my job. Before that it was after the La Salle Girls Attack incident in Ateneo. And before that, wow, after I had broken up with my Dear. Since then, my lanai hasn’t really been filled with the laughter and the shallowness that my friends used to bring with them every weekend when I was still in college.

What’s more, I was flattered and thankful that someone actually wanted my opinion on something, but my opinions can be harsh sometimes. So I opted to invite another friend to bring some balance to the discussion.

A few other friends passed by as well, officemates of one of my friends. They were really funny and they brought that happy and tipsy feel that we used to have when my whole high school barkada would drink here.

I miss drinking with my high school friends. We used to talk about the new things we learned in college, the differences in our college cultures and we took pride in the fact that we were still together even if we had different career paths and new-found friends. We loved that fact that we could still connect and that we had so much to talk about. Even when they started talking about I.T. gibberish, I actually understood some of it; and when I talked about my Ateneo friends and my love for production, arts and sports, they found my stories interesting and were actually interested in meeting my new group.

We couldn’t do without the Ateneo-La Salle jokes, of course. So all those rumors about UAAP came up. But what the hell, we never really gave a damn anyway. We were always more interested in how we were doing, what we were experiencing, who was who in our lives and syempre, how’s your love life? Hehe.

I love my high school friends. A lot of us don’t talk anymore, but whenever we get together, we try to outdo each other. Who has the better story for the night? And there’s no worry about being uninteresting and feeling out of place. We grew up together, we experienced adolescence, first love and first heartbreak together. Nothing is embarrassing, and nothing is not worth talking about.

AND, as Horny Hornedo once said, “Nasa lasingan ang katotohanan!” Hehe. All hail San Miguel Beer! :)

I'm watching Oliver Stone's Heaven and Earth (The movie that Leah Salonga turned down.) on HBO right now. Such a sad, hard and monstrous movie.

When you think about it, everyone is a sweetheart; and at the same time, everyone has a monster within, just sleeping, sleeping until it is awakened and taunted and led into the open. Reminds me of Legends of the Fall. I was tripping on that movie all October since Star Movies kept on showing it.

Everyone is a sweetheart, and everyone is a monster. So it's all about choices. Should I stay or should I go? Should I love or should I live?

Sad.

>The long weekend cleansing ritual.

Every Halloween, I really go out of my way to get into a costume that I could realistically pull off. I didn’t get to go trick-or-treat-ing this year, but I did party ‘til 5am. Yeba!

My family and I didn’t get to go to South Cemetery this year to visit the grave of my maternal grandparents Abuelito Nel and Abuelita Nina. We usually go a week before All Souls’ Day to avoid the crowd, but we weren’t able to find the time to get together and my eldest sister Carla had to leave for Hawaii last Saturday. So we’re just going to light a candle tonight, as we usually do every year, and say our little prayers to our dead loved ones and to the spirits around our house.

The long weekend at this time of year has always been simple. We all love Halloween, so my sisters and I usually party with our friends ‘til the wee hours of the morning. November 1 and 2 are for cleaning up the house.

When Abuelita Nina was still alive, we used to pray to our Abuelito Nel’s ashes here at home. His ashes were in a simple marble urn placed in the corner of the living room beside our TV. We made him a mini altar with a lot of candles and pictures of him and our family. Abuelita Nina didn’t want to be cremated. So when she died, we placed Abuelito Nel’s ashes inside her coffin, along with her favorite pillow and hand towel. I was supposed to place a clean bottle of coke in there, too, but everything happened so fast when she died that I had forgotten to do so. She was immediately burried the day after she died and I wasn’t even able to go the funeral because I had to rush to school for a long test in Philo 101.

When you’re cleaning up your room, you tend to find things that make you pause for a bit. Old letters, old pictures, old schoolbooks, and old gifts...you can’t help but stop and hop on to memory lane for a little while.

I came across some test papers from college and decided to throw the really bad ones. Hehe. I also found this Self-Assessment test that I never submitted to the Ateneo Placement Office, and an Idea Farm proposal (I think we wanted to put up a little production group.) that Cam wrote in Senior Year. I’ve a lot of other collectibles such as the Guidon issue with the soccer team getting into a fight with some outsiders as the headline (This issue was pulled out when a player complained about being misquoted, but I kept mine. Nyahahaha!) I still have my old readings, papers and Bio notes and I enjoyed reading my old scripts, like Boltez Tree for Radio Prod, a rip-off of The Powerpuff Girls. I played Regla Ranger (Buttercup), Joysie was Gumamela (Bubbles) and Ana Garcia was Mental who had the power of textekinesis (Kinda far off from being similar to Blossom).

Looking at old letters is always my favorite. I always end up tearing, of course, whether or not the letters were sad or angry, but reading old letters is usually funny. Badly-written letters, cheesy letters, horrible handwriting, they’re all funny! :)

I came across an envelope filled with high school palanca letters and the major complaint was that I was too childish. During a retreat in Junior high, a schoolmate of mine said, “I hope that when we become seniors, you won’t be running around the corridors like a kid. We’ve to grow up already.” Well, I’m still running around, but this time it’s for work. Hehe.

Another envelope labeled ALI-BABA was filled with get well soon letters from my friends in gymnastics. I was supposed to compete in an invitational in Australia, but a real mean mosquito gave me dengue. Good thing we caught the dengue before it fully developed inside me, but I didn’t get well in time for the invitational. I was still sick when the gymnasts came back and Nikki Zialcita, the gymnast who replaced me, came back with one of those friendship necklaces. The pendant was a heart that said Best Friends and it was cut in the middle, making it 2 pendants for two friends. I remember feeling bitter when she gave it to me in the hospital, but now that I think about it, it was really sweet of her. I think I was just a real competitive brat at the time and that I was jealous that she and the others got to see kangaroos and koala bears.

I was able to fill a huge plastic container with a lot of shoeboxes full of letters and it was amazing how I still knew which boxes were which. Letters from Tropang Bato, letters from Senior year, Christmas cards, birthday cards, and letters from old boyfriends. Each former boyfriend has a specific box (Well, one actually has a BAG because some of the stuff can’t fit inside a shoebox.). A friend of mine calls them my boyfriend graveyard, but they’re just really boxes of nice memories like pictures, tickets, receipts, bottle caps, love notes and letters. One box even has an empty bottle of wine from a dream Valentine’s date in Italliani's.

Aside from keeping memories, my boxes have always been my way of moving on, and cleaning up has always been a sort of cleansing ritual for me. I had to throw away a lot of stuff, including my one and only Trapper Keeper. I’ve had it since Grade 4 and it has gone through a lot of transformations. The last was Rurouni Kenshin and I think that was my favorite look., but it got wet in a flood last November 2000. Inside were the high school grad pics of my friends and they got wet and deformed, too. I’m still keeping them, but I decided to say goodbye to my Trapper Keeper. Sigh, babye.

I think cleaning up your closet is the most cleansing job of all. You look at each item and you think whether you still want to be caught wearing such things or if you want to reinvent yourself. I looked at myself in the mirror and realized that I didn’t want my old striped shirts (Yes, I still have those!) and some of the oversized pambahay shirts anymore. I even found some blouses with shoulder pads. Haha! Um, NO! Straight to the garage sale box you go! I want to invest on more athletic wear. I only have one pair of jogging pants (The other one has a large hole from the tambucho of a motorcycle.) and I need new socks. I’ve had my socks since high school and they’re too thin for my new rubber shoes.

Cleaning up makes you think a lot about what you did in the past, what you want to do in the future and what you want to keep with you along the way. I think I want to be a more responsible daughter, help more with the family expenses and save enough to fix our darn roof and finish the darn kitchen. Cleaning up your house also helps clean up the clutter in your mind. You get this certain focus that’s very overwhelming and promising, you can’t help but create a new and hopefully better path for yourself and your life.
