>Getting a Capoeira high!

grupo capoeira manilaFor more than a year, my life as a producer was filled with assigned jobs to shoot sponsored events. The first time I shot something I really wanted to explore was last year when I did a 101 story on Capoeira with Cookie Duran and Grupo Capoeira Manila (GCM). The same group had been shot before by Cam when Paolo and Suzi were still the hosts; but instead of Cookie, the cool cat, or should I say macaque, was Nicole Severino. GCM was still pretty small back then, and the attendance in my shoot with Cookie was a little bit bigger, but the best was my shoot with Nicole in the polo field of the Alabang Country Club early in January. There were about 20 plus capoeiristas on the field and when I saw Carlo playing in the roda (pronounced as "ho-da") with them, I wanted to cry because this was how I always wanted to shoot it. Outdoors, low sun, grass...I finally took it out of the gym and all the ideas for the music and the edit came to me easily.

I got very good comments for that story, and until now, I enjoy watching it before editing something. It psyches me up tremendously because the combination of the Ateneo de Manila Glee Club's voices in the intro (Many thanks to Maggie and friends.), Denor's experimental camera style, GCM's beautiful spontaneity in dance and acrobatics, and Carlo's very game and humble approach made it my almost perfect story, the one story that I will compare everything else with. Everything just came together so well. Sigh. I think I'm going to watch it before I sleep tonight. I'm pining for the Berimbau music.

My interest in the sport sprung from the discovery that my maternal grandfather was Brazilian-Portuguese. I found very, very old pictures of his aunts and they were in fluffy dresses and carrying square umbrellas with ruffles. Cool. It was as if I was looking at a picture from Dangerous Liasons. But no, these were my great aunts. How surreal.

Realizing that I had some Brazilian blood (And that I was more mongril than ever!), watching the stories about Brazil on the Discovery Channel became more fascinating for me. Then I saw Ian Wright's Lonely Planet episode in Brazil and the Capoeira scene was done in a beach. Wow. I'd love to shoot Capoeira in a beach. Most of all, I'd love to try it. Grass or sand are the best for practicing acrobatic moves, so I'm sure I'd go crazy on such soft landing, what with my experence in gymnastics and dancing.

It's a beautiful art and I believe that everyone should give it a try. Not only is it an extremely wonderful workout (Especially for your buns.), it's an escape where music makes your body move and your heart pump with freedom and passion and everything you feel inside, be it sadness, happiness or peace.

>Back from Location X. Man, I love the sound of that. Location X!

If anyone who reads my blog is interested in joining our (Here I go again!!!) Del Monte Great 202 Quest, today's the last day for submissions. And if you get in, I promise that it'll be one wild experience that you won't forget. Think Amazing Race in a very pinoy setting, complete with cultural immersion and scenery that you can only dream of when you're as poor as me. It's really going to be an adventure, and the experience will be more rewarding than the cash prize itself.

I just came back from the test-run and even if I just pretended to be a racer (I wasn't motivated by P100,000,000. Darn it! Hehe.), I loved, loved, LOVED the race course. Wow! It was stressful, unpredictable, wonderful and totally unforgettable. I'd love to blog about the course and my trip, but, well, it has to be called Location X until June. Sigh. But just to give you an idea, last year's race course led the teams from Intramuros and Luneta in Manila, to ukay-ukay and Burnham Park in Baguio, through Solano in Nueva Vizcaya, to a waterfall and the breathtaking rice terraces in Batad, and all the way to Echo Valley, Sumaguing Cave and the finish line in beautfiul Sagada. All that in only 3 days...FOR FREE!!!

So again, today is the last day, but you'll have to bring you application forms and requirements straight to any of the mailing addresses listed in the website. So please join! If you get in, you've got nothing to lose and so much to gain. And who knows where in the Philippines you'll end up? Dude, that's the best part! Not knowing at all.

>Elpee's an EP!

Watch out for Lakbay TV's newest show called NightShift with hosts Nathan, Tasha and Maey (Oh my God! Maey's a host!!!) Bautista. And it's coming out in mid May, so please watch out for it. Dear friend and GSM huggable Leslie Perez (or Elpee) is the executive producer of the series. I hope it turns out well. I'm pretty excited for her. Yippee!

>Kuya Robert's got fans!
A whole bunch of kids were in the office last week, and all we heard from this was Kuya Robert this, Kuya Robert that, kuya, kuya, I'm going to draw you!

There you have it. Art Is-Kool is a hit and Robert Alejandro is the new idol of little Filipino artists. His family owns Papemelroti (He's the "Ro" in Papemelroti!) and he designed a few malls (Town Center Cinemas and Star Mall) and has had many art exhibits. He's perfect for the show and has a wonderful rapport with children. Kids have been calling in to talk to him, and parents in our company are amazed with how attentive their children are when they're watching the show.

I remember the first time it aired and our lightman Mandy said that his kids were glued to the TV; but then they left all their mess afterwards. So now, Robert tells his yooung viewers to clean up after every art project. Haha! Very helpul feedback there.

If you have budding artists in your home, or you just want the kids to watch something enriching, please watch Art Is-Kool every Saturday morning from 930 to 1030 on GMA 7. You won't regret it, and I'm so sure they won't regret it either. Hell, it beats stupid Teletubbies any time!

let's watch art is-kool!!!

>De-stressing, GamePlan style.

There are days when our workload makes us nuts, so we find different ways to de-stress and lighten up a bit, even for just a while.

We all have stuff toys that we play with in the office. Sometimes we even bring our stuff toys to shoots and take pictures of them on location, just like the gnome in Amelie. Inside the office, we find creative ways for the toys to be athletic. Karen once found a spare telephone wire, so we hung it and twirled it and stuck it in certain places and made her toy Froggy rappel. My toy Poochie was the belayer. Hehe. Right now, Froggy's dead with X's for eyes; and Poochie's carrying him, as if to show off his new dead frog. Cam has a duck named George and when we want to irritate someone, we just press his back and he goes "quack, quack, quack". Mel's old monkey Joe just sits around going "uga, uga," and our new PA Jan has a hog. His name is "Hog", pronounced as "hawg" like a yawn. Jan claims he can't talk yet, but we'll give him a voice soon.

Last Feb, Gretchen learned from her yoga teacher that handstands can help de-stress you. You just do a handstand for a while and when you stand up, your blood starts rushing down and you're overcome by its very relaxing effect. So there we were doing handstands in the garden. Gretchen did hers on the wall and it was horrible; and poor Jan, who was still very new at the time, got weirded out and said that we were crazy. I told him, well, this is our sport. You go ahead and climb your mountains. I mean, that's pretty crazy, too, you know.

Yesterday's was the best, though. It kind of beat Mel's playing cricket inside the office stint last year. Cam was having a really, really bad day. But when she remembered that she had a jump rope in her bag, her eyes went brights mode and we ran out to the garden to play. Her jump rope's special, a rhythmic gymnastics rope from Japan; and so I tried doing as many double jumps as I could (The most I did was 16. Shucks!) and she did her rhythmic gymnastics moves. She was a little frustrated, though, because the rope wouldn't bounce off grass or cement. We both missed the bouncy gymnastics floor.

Anyway, she was doing those moves where you throw the rope, turn, and then catch it again. She was on roll, until… Throw, turn, catch. Throw, turn catch. Throw, waaaah!!! The rope got stuck on our mango tree. Ahahaha!!! It was the funniest thing ever! I wish I had a camera.

So there was Camille, pouting and pretending to cry. Good thing Alex came out with his pang-sungkit ng mangga. Yey! Her day still turned out to be good after all. :)

>I'm so pretty! Oh so pretty! I'm so pretty and witty and gay!

Miggy, Denise, George and I watched Anger Management in Town and it was hilarious! The comedy was the irritating American type, but we were in the right mood for it and I was laughing my head off most of the time. Jack Nicholson was so funny, and his smile is just so distinct. "It's the Joker!" And it was so much fun to see Adam Sandler again, and all his friends who come out in his other movies.

I like seeing movies like this, where big names like Nicholson take on incredibly funny roles that you'd never really expect them to do. It reminded me of Robert de Niro in Meet the Parents. Hey, comedy's pretty hard to do, too, and these actors can take on any challenge, be it comedy, drama, psychotic or violent. Coolness.

>NOCs are cool!

I saw The Recruit with my sister Bianca and wow, what a tiring but good movie. Sure, Al Pacino shouted a lot as usual, but the story line was so wild. There were some loopholes, I'm sure, but the constant thinking while watching was amazing. Well, for me and my sister at least. "Is it a test? Is it a tes? Pusang hilaw! It's a test!" And ooh, Collin Farrell's pretty hot. He has a really thick Irish accent in real life, though, but American or Irish, whatever the accent, he's a hottie.

Ay. But he dated Britney Spears. Ew.

Anyway, back to the movie, I think I really enjoyed because I've been on this CIA mode lately. Blame it on Alias which finally came out on AXN. And yes, it's in English!

Wow, all these action and thinking films make me want to be a stuntwoman again. Hehe.

>SUCCESS!!!

It's way better than Kankunis or Fibrosine. Truly! I swear by it!

I just rediscovered that Yakult is the best in keeping your bowel movement regular. And when you want to induce movement, then drink it first thing in the morning. Hehe. But then you'll end up going to the bathroom in the middle of the day, so be sure to have tissue and a tabo in your office.

There were also rumors that Yakult could help prevent SARS. Then the rumor was printed in a Hong Kong paper and everyone there started panic buying the stuff. The representative of Yakult was so shocked that he had to make a statement. He said that studies haven't been made whether their product could actually prevent or cure SARS, but it'll help keep you healthy and less prone to getting the virus.

Yeah! Go Lactobacillus casei Shirota strain!!!

*Julian's text tone is Yakult and it's really cute. My phone can't have test tones, so I'm sad. And Joepi, argh!!! She has the Kim Possible text tone. Grrrr. I been wanting that text tone since the show came out! That was my idea and Globe stole it! (Yes, I'm exaggerating.)

>My first Diver's Night in Kidd Creole.

If you're a diver, then you definitely have to sign up in the aqua one mailing list and join the fun in Diver's Night every other Wednesday. My first night was a blast! I hadn't had that much fun dancing and drinking in a long time. Everyone was going wild, and they say that that night was pretty mild. So I can only imagine how wild the other parties could be.

I escaped to Kidd Creole in Greenbelt 3 one editing night last March and discovered, again, that all divers were drunkards...fine, 90% of them anyway. :) I was so poor that night, so I only had 2 Pales, and when a diver sat beside me, he asked, "Why aren’t you drinking?" "I'm saving money," I said. "You're not allowed to stop drinking!!!" Then he bought me a San Mig Light, just like that. Wow! Then there was a lady diver who was craving for more beer, and then she swung her hand around and started pointing at each of us, "You want beer? You want beer? Waiter! 5 beers please!" My eyes got so big, I gave Tantan this really frightened look. "Tan, I don't have anymore money." "Don't worry, she's treating you," he said.

Man, these people are so friendly and fun and… and I'm not just saying this because they bought me beer (Believe me, I was very embarrassed.). They're just really all about fun and friendship and having passion for a common sport or hobby. They all come from different walks of life, but on Diver's Night, they can share their experiences in different dives, ask the veterans questions and make new friends.

So yes, I enjoyed the party very much. My only problem now is that I don't remember everyone's name.

yey, a sober picture. :)
A very girl picture with Jean, Porna and Maya. :)

>Why Cynthia Alexander rules. Literally.

Cynthia Alexander performed in a 102.3 gig in Culture Club Alabang a few weeks ago. I wasn't able to watch her, but the story was that before beginning her set, she asked the audience to stop smoking because she was allergic. So they stopped, and she played on and everyone listened, smoke free and happy.

It was the first time that I heard such a story. Man, I'd stop smoking for Cynthia anytime...especially since I stole her pizza from the office ref last year. Hehe. :p

>202 Quest deadline.

By the way, for those who are planning to join our Del Monte Great 202 Quest this May, the deadline for applications is already on April 28. So please, please join. I swear it'll be really fun.

Visit the link and download the application form. Print it out and submit it with a full body picture, 4 Del Monte 202 juice labels (Try guyabano. It's the easiest to peel off.) and a short essay answering the question: Do you have what it takes to join the Del Monte Great 202 Quest?

Entries will be shortlisted for a VTR by GamePlan and the clients, and a physical test c/o of yours truly and Ramil. It'd be good to workout a bit, but you don't really have to be that fit to join. The winners from last year weren't exactly athletes, so there's always hope for everyone.

So go, go! Please join! :)

>Swimsuits galore for the summer.

Admit it. Summer time is the time to buff up and get sexy for the beach; but besides firming up in time for the sun, finding the right swimsuit can be pretty stressful, too. It’s not only difficult to find a nice style for you, but an affordable price as well.

In my opinion, Arena and Speedo are the best brands for swimsuits in terms of quality and longevity. For competitive swimmers, Arenas are slick and light, but they don’t last as long as Speedos do. Which is why some swimmers, such as my sisters way back when, train in Speedos and compete in Arenas. For leisure swimmers, though, there are a lot of cool designs to choose from at Arena and Speedo, but they come at pretty hefty prices. Nothing But Water and the Paolo Collection have really cute suits, but they don’t last as long. Then again, swimsuits don’t really last very long in the first place, unless you’re really careful with them. I for one still have my high school varsity S2 and it’s still in pretty good condition.

For people who aren’t really that particular about swimwear as I am, department store choices are alright. They won’t last that long, maybe a year at the most, but by the time you get another break from work, you’ll probably want a new set of suits anyway.

I passed by a friend’s house earlier this week and she was packing for her trip to Cebu with her family. She was talking on her phone and I was greeted with a mouthed “hello” and an extremely messy room. Near the door was a maleta filled with loads of clothes, and I started laughing because she seemed to have too many swimsuits. Apparently, she bought them in a department store for maybe 200 or 300 bucks each, extremely cheap for swimwear.

So there’s a little tip for you all. The good suits are still in Arena and Speedo, but the cheap ones, well, they’ll have to do for one summer or two.

Now go ahead and the hit the beach and have a happy summer!

>My first try at the tri circuit.

The Arena-TLP Triathlon in Mabini, Batangas is near. Actually, it's next weekend. Sunday to be exact. Too bad I won't be around to watch, but I wish the racers and the event organizers all the best this year. :)

I joined the same triathlon last year, except it was sponsored by Speedo back then. I was invited by Annarod and Chick to join their all-girls relay team, along with Paolo, Jake and Ren who formed an all-boys team. Annarod took on the bike leg while Chick, being an AMCI mountaineer ran on the dirt road to the finish line. I did the 1.5K swim and wow, that swim was a long one; and the experience was extremely weird. I never felt so violated in my entire life! Triathlons usually start with the swim and since this triathlon started with a mass entry, imagine being in a crowd of racers in skimpy swim suits, huge muscles with race numbers and experience written all over them. I was so white at the time, so being with all those nicely tanned (even sunog) athletes made my self-confidence shrink to almost zero, especially since I had zero training to begin with. I heard the gunshot (or was it a horn?) and everyone just got into the water and started swimming. So, again, imagine being in that crowd with maybe a hundred triathletes fighting for swimming space and grabbing the water...and then your thigh, your ass, your boob, oh my God, get away from me! One even pulled on my leg, so I gave him a kick on his face, hoping that his goggles would wound him or something. Well, not really. That's mean. But he was mean! Or was it a she?

I swam to the side and created my own lane, together with some other swimmers who didn't want to be part of the chaos. It was like rush hour, and I was swimming on the shoulder. Suddenly, a little boy swam by me and I was so impressed because his strokes were so beautiful. Halfway into the swim and I was getting pretty bored. Good thing we were in the ocean; so I looked down a few times and little orange fishies were swimming underneath me and I'd bubble, "Wow! Fishies!" Then someone would try to overtake me and I'd speed up, get a bit of my lead back, then slow down and pace myself and look for the fishies again. And whenever I'd see the underwater cameraman (who turned out to be buko), I'd swim faster and switch from breast stroke to freestyle. Stretch, stretch, glide, glide...and then I'd slow down and shift to breast stroke.

My time was pretty good. 32 minutes, a little after Paolo. And yey, I had a drink of fresh water to quench my salt-dried throat. Then I had a cigarette, took a deep breath and thought to myself...I swam 1.5K in 30minutes. Wow, that's good for an unhealthy person such as myself.

I'm not ready to do a full triathlon. Compared to adventure racing, triathlons require a different kind of endurance training. Adventure races have stops, and you can rest at certain transition points or when you're doing another discipline. Triathlons, however, push you on and on, non-stop for long distances per discipline. But that doesn't necessarily make one harder than the other. Just different in terms of training, and I'm not ready for either of them.

But I will be soon. Well, maybe.

>"God's Wings."

This was forwarded to me by a friend.

An article in National Geographic several years ago provided an
interesting picture of God's wings.

After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers
began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno's damage.
One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched
statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree. Somewhat
sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick.
When he gently struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under
their dead mother's wings.

The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had
carried her offsprings to the base of the tree and had gathered them
under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would
rise. She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon
her babies. When the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched
her small body, the mother had remained steadfast.

Because she had been willing to die, those under the cover of her
wings would live.

"He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will
find refuge." (Psalm 91:4)

All you need is love! Have a blessed Holy Week. :)

Ok, now I'm really sleeping. But before I sleep! I just want to say...to all the people working in prodcution and living on cup noodles...screw that! Buy the noodles in packets! Right now, I'm hooked on Nissin's Beef Ramen and the soup tastes so much better! Eating it gives me ideas! It gives me hope that aha! I can still stay awake! And for some reason, when I'm really, really down, I just take one whiff of the soup's aroma and oooh, the world is right again! Or at least for the moment.

So seriously, please consider buying the packets instead of the cup noodles in styrofoam. They taste better. AND, they only cost P4.50 each.

Just a tip from production slave to production slave. :)

To the point na baka mainggit pa yung maging boyfriend ko. Or my lifestyle might just drive him completely nuts.

So if I don't have a boyfriend for a long time, that means my sisters will not get married for a long time (because the manghuhula said that I'd be the first to get married.) Mwarharharhar!!!

Or maybe when he said that bunso would marry first, he meant my half sister Julia...hmmm...

In case you're curious, the free Corona came from the Speedo show. More on that next time. All I can say right now is...why do athletes drink a lot? And why do they like to spray alcohol wildly during awards ceremonies?

I'm convinced that all athletes are alcoholics. Or in denial. Or in hiding. :)

>A bit of getting to know me I guess.

MTBI Test Results:

Your personality type is ISFP.

Introverted (I) 75% Extraverted (E) 25%
Sensing (S) 50% Intuitive (N) 50%
Feeling (F) 60% Thinking (T) 40%
Perceiving (P) 64% Judging (J) 36%

The ISFP is a very special individual who needs to have a career
which is more than a job. The middle of the road is not likely to be
a place where they will be fulfilled and happy. They need to have a
career which is consistent with their strong core of inner values.
Since they prefer to live in the current moment, and take the time
to savor it, they do not do well with some of the more fast-paced
corporate environments. They need a great deal of space and
freedom if they are going to function in their natural realm of acute
sensory awareness. If they give free reign to their natural abilities,
they may find a wonderful artist within themselves. Almost every
major artist in the world has been an ISFP. Since the ISFP is so
acutely aware of people's feelings and reactions, and is driven by
their inner values to help people, the ISFP is also a natural counselor
and teacher.

More here. And here.

Seeing the list of possible careers was a little freaky, because I had considered all of them more than once in my life. But reading my so-called traits kind of confirmed my reasons for working for GamePlan. There's no other job like it in the world, and the fulfillment I get from every project is always wonderful, even more than I can handle sometimes.

kyut, kyut!
Don't cry. Don't cry!
ay, pangit na. haha! just kidding, baby. :)
Whaaaaa!!!

I visited my good friend and her baby in a far away land yesterday and they were both looking mighty fine. Baby Fia seems to have gotten longer and her mother just keeps on blooming, always looking more beautiful than the last time we met. It was wonderful seeing them together and doing the baby talk was really fun, especially since Baby tried to talk back a few times.

I can’t wait ‘til Baby can walk. The afternoon’s heat wave gave her a sweat and a few rashes and I really felt sorry for her. She was also frustrated about not being able to turn over and crawl, but she’ll gain more strength soon. She has a pretty good grip, so I joked with her mother that Baby would make a really good athlete someday. Hehe.

i didn't make her cry ha! the heat did!
Look at her. She mwissed mwee!

I should really visit them more often. :)

>Classic Weekend.

For the first time in my life, I went to see Razorback LIVE. Woohoo!

My friends who run a radio station on 102.3FM officially opened their Rock Radio Cafe in Culture Club Alabang last Friday and the bands were Green, Lokopyle, and blast-from-the-past Razorback, who apparently enjoyed the gig so much that they didn’t want to get off the stage.

I also enjoyed seeing some high school friends, along with college friend Amanda who graduated with Ramon. Mahal and I were joking about how the culture in Culture Club Alabang was so different from the one on Libis. Wow, Culture Club. Haha! Actually, we were both shocked to hear that the gig was there, but at least the Alabang branch wasn’t exactly rave-ish. Many of the people there had faces I’d seen before, fun guys who enjoyed rock and roll (Not the metal rap type, ok?) and head banged to the same beat and with the same intensity. Cool!

I wish that more bands would come to the south. That was a really fun gig. Still, I hated the P150 cover charge. And it was weird to see kids who took up swimming or gymnastics under me walking around in a bar, smoking, drinking, cussing and whoo-ing. Dang, my age is showing.

>A big Ilonggo mad house.

Joey reopened Brash last Saturday with Balay Daku by JP Carpio. The title translates into “Big House” and it’s basically about a Manila-based Ilonggo named Julio who decides to take a vacation with his new wife Stella in his hometown of Bacolod in Negros.

From what I gathered during the viewing, Julio went to Manila on a whim a long time ago (Right after high school maybe), leaving his mother Inday Carmen and older brother Boy behind. The family welcomed him back, but not his wife. Well, they were civil with her, friendly when possible, but there was no moment of zero tension whenever Inday Carmen and Stella were in the same room. They owned a hacienda, meaning they were a family of respectably high status, and Stella didn’t really fit in the family picture. And in all honesty, if my son came home with a daughter dressed the way she was, I’d be pretty disturbed, too.

To make things worse, Julio had an old girlfriend named Isabella, a friend of the family and someone Stella had never heard of. Uh-oh.

And so the drama begins. Stella tries and tries (Or does she?) to survive the slow Bacolod life and Inday Carmen’s evil eye. The problem is that the drama never seems to end. Even the ending didn’t give me any answers. Maybe that’s how life is, but not all the time.

Personal notes: I hated all the characters (Except Inday Carmen. She was cool.). Stella was too irritating, Julio was a jerk, Kuya Boy was too weak, and Isabella was totally annoying with no respect for the couple’s space. The digital look of the film was forgivable, but I couldn’t really appreciate the cinematography, the edit, the bad audio, and the no-music style very much. The pace was also too slow for my taste.

All of that aside, though, I think that the success of the film came from bravery, effort, and the use of a topic that was very close to home. Everyone in the room started arguing about the characters and their situation and I thought that that was pretty cool. There was also talk about how natural the dialogue between characters was, but I don’t speak Ilonggo, so I can’t really decide whether the delivery was natural or not. But the fact that the whole movie was shot in Ilonggo was very interesting.

>The strange mind of Stephen King.

My sister Bianca and I watched Dreamcatcher last Sunday and I think that we both had fun. Bianca’s a huge Stephen King fan with a top shelf filled with the author’s books. Hell, she’s even had dreams that had a credit roll with “Written by: Stephen King”. So I found it cool listening to her during the movie. She gets scared easily, so even before anything scary came up, she covered her eyes and prepared herself.

I sank in my chair a few times and started talked like the usual Pinoy moviegoer, “’Wag, wag! Don’t go there!” But when someone asked me about how I rated the movie, I gave it a 5/10. The toilet scene with Jason Lee was really scary, and I liked the metaphor and the visuals between Jones’ Memory Bank and the real world. I also liked the character of Tom Sizemore, but only because, well, it was played by Tom Sizemore. Other than that, it was just ok. Entertaining, but nothing great really.

The concept of the story itself was weird. Maybe I just haven’t read enough of Stephen King’s work to appreciate his vision.

>Some dreams can wait.

I'm not going to dive in Tubbataha anymore (Huhuhu galore!), but I guess it'd be better for me to hone my diving skills first, learn the lingo, study the gear and perfect my buoyancy. More dives are in order. And hey! Look at what I got in the mail.

Oooh, I'm not deleting this from my inbox EVER!

My license is coming! Woohoo! And my instructor Tantan doesn't just hand it over when it arrives. No, no, no! He has to give it underwater, like a right to passage whatever, and that means my officemates and I are going to have to dive together this April to get officially certified. Yeba! Aquaventure, here we come!!!

>Thank God I work for a sports show.

I just finished watching The Probe Team here in the office and I must say that the news/ TV magazine job is just so stressful and scary.

Before The show came on, we were watching Saksi where a quick shorty on the Sex Drive Premiere in UP Diliman aired. I had just arrived from that very premiere, so I was aliw with how fast news could be edited, voiced and aired. Minutes later, The Probe Team started and the spiels made good use of the new crane and dolly. Tsk! But by the third segment, hala! There was still one more tape being assembled upstairs! The system is this. Probe Team edits Monday to Tuesday and assembles and rushes the tapes to GMA 7 right before airing time. But sometimes, certain stories take longer to edit, so those are submitted in pahabol style, rushed to the station as soon as possible before the breaks and the ads.

Albert came down asking, "Sinong may kotse?!?!" Jason offered his car and they drove to the station in time for the last half of the third story and the CBB.

God. They're show's so difficult to work for. But man, their stories tonight were superb, about SARS, South Korea, and the lonely Robert in London. Galing. Tonight was a good ep. Good, good.

>Standing room.

As I mentioned above, I went to the premiere of Robert Quebral's Sex Drive a few hours ago. I think that it was funny in a sort of American Pie sort of way, with some pretty shots, good lighting and good use of live sound. Um, a little too much sex for me,t hough. Hehe. But other than that, it was very entertaining with creative visuals and a good soundtrack, really funny scenarios and twists. And wow, I've no idea how the MTRCB reacted to this movie. It'll be showing in theaters today, so I'm curious to see if anything I saw a while ago will be cut out.

Katya wa quite a surprise. Her acting was pretty good. Maui, well, blah. And hello! Who would wear a cleavage that big in a tight, white top in a Dangwa bus station?!?! Crazy.

Yesterday was also the screening of the films by Quark's students in Ateneo. I liked a lot of the earlier films that were shown, but my favorites were Chess by a kid named Zig, and Bianca Gonzalez's Stoplight. Both were short and sweet. Chess was dramatic, and I think I appreciated the mix of the characters' conversation with the progress in their game. Stoplight was about a young man's silent reaction to his girlfriend's "I'm pregnant" announcement in the car. The visuals created by the funny edit and the cute SFX were very good, and the metaphors reminded me of Ally McBeal. Like when she likes a guy and her tongue shoots out of her mouth and drops to the ground. Or when she was dumped by a guy and the next shot was her getting dumped into a garbage truck. That type.

Anyway, i'm not being biased because Bianca is the sister of an old friend. Hehe. Or because she used my banged and bruised camera Bai. Tsk! No, no. I was truly impressed by her work and I hope that she keeps moving forward from here.

I also enjoyed the first movie entitled Ganito kami ngayon...so what the fuck? (Or something like that) by Wincy of the indie band Narda. I was surprised to see Lee (Dakilang tambay ng UPM. :) and Akong (From SPIT.) in the film, and I found the jump-from-here-to-here format of the script interesting, the different stories of 4 or 5 characters finally meshing together in the end. There was also the film by Nick Reyes (Shit, I forget the title.) which had experimental editing with pop-ins and abrupt changes in lighting. Yan and Issa were the actors, so I also found it cool that Issa, until now, was still willing to play roles that most students wouldn't play. Well, she's not a student anymore, but what the hey. That's how she was in college, too. And then there was Kapag Tumibok ang Puso by Boby Bonifacio, a musical about a girl who likes her teacher but actually likes her bespren who also likes her but can't seem to show it. Get? Anyway, I had a fun time watching it. The edit was pretty good since it was song and dance type, and I loved how the actors were so game. Haha! It made me miss college all the more.

I wasn't able to appreciate the rest of the films because I was so tired. Some films were 30 or 40 minutes long, and by the time I left, only 10 or 12 out of 30 films had been played. Egad. Still, it was nice to see some of Quark's students do good. They're the future you know. Hehe.

>"Sex Drive! Pornograpiya ba o hindi?"

Katya Santos: "Hindi naman. Mild pa nga 'yan eh. Hindi siya pornography."
Maui Taylor: "Oo nga! At 'saka film siya eh. Hindi siya, ano, in the flesh."

Silence. Stare at a friend. Then start laughing like a hyena. All together now!

In fairness, they did ok in the film, but I just wish that they'd do good off-cam as well. I mean, they're the ones promoting the movie, right? Wait a minute. They were still on-cam. Bah.

Reminds me of Kris Aquino. Sometimes I think that she just acts bobo on purpose para maging masa or something. Come on, women! I'm sure you have brains! Agh!
