>Utang na loob!

photo from philstarI was shooting in Iligan, talking to political figures about how sad it was for the National Steel Corporation to have closed down; but how wonderful it is to live in a city with 23 official waterfalls, an urban coast guarded by mountains, extremely fresh (and not to mention cheap!) fruits, and uber friendly hello's and mabuhay's. Wow Iligan talaga. For a while there, you think of how beautiful your country...until a romantic break-up hits the headlines. Yeah, Kris and Joey, the power couple of sadness, a real soap opera, chuva! I swear, the only ones that I really feel bad for are Cory and Noynoy Aquino. They're poor family.

And hello! There're more important things to deal with in this country!!!

Also in the news, some idiots are throwing huge spikes along EDSA! Lord, what's the Philippines coming to? More of, when is the Philippines going to get out this rut?

Spikes puncture tires of 39 vehicles, cause traffic jam on EDSA

By Nikko Dizon
The Philippine Star 09/26/2003

Pranksters scattered iron spikes across a busy portion of EDSA in
Mandaluyong City yesterday, causing the tires of 39 vehicles to
puncture and leading to a major traffic jam, the Metropolitan Manila
Development Authority (MMDA) said.

The six-pointed spikes, made from welded and sharpened iron bars,
were strewn during the morning rush hour along a stretch of the
southbound lane of the EDSA-Shaw underpass.

Tires burst one after the other aggravating the already slow moving
traffic toward Makati City.

Police and firetrucks rushed to the scene and cleared the road of
spikes and vehicles with flat tires. Traffic police were also dispatched
to search other parts of the avenue for spikes.

The MMDA collected 100 of the spikes, which were scattered by two
men on a motorcycle after 8 a.m. Some of the spikes have been
turned over to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

MMDA Traffic Operations Center Executive Director Angelito Vergel
de Dios said that at around 8:30 a.m., three vehicles were reported
to have flat tires. An hour later, the figure rose to 39.

De Dios said he believes that mischief was not the motive since the
perpetrators invested time and money in manufacturing the spikes.

"These are not sold commercially," he said.

The MMDA official said that in 1992, a religious cult scattered metal
spikes in Sta. Mesa and Bonifacio Avenue in Manila.

No one has claimed responsibility for yesterday’s incident.

While the NCRPO conducts an investigation, MMDA traffic enforcers
would be monitoring EDSA to prevent any other incident.

>Death by Mutual Admiration.

Man! This Friendster gimmick is nuts! It's addictive! In less than 24 hours, I was able to acquire 36 friends, resulting in a network of 205,362 people. Hanep!

I actually feel like I'm playing Age of Empires for some reason. I must build my empire! Collect wood, collect stone, collect FRIENDS!

The difference between friendster surfing and blog hopping is that most blogs are filled with rants and bitching. In friendster, everyone's just friending each other! Even if you haven't seen a person in ages, sige! I'll friend you! Plus you wanna give certain people quirky or meaningful testimonials, so you have to think of nice things to say about them. Well, except in the case of some people whom we like to fool around with. But in all honesty, the extremely friendly atmosphere is really cool. It's so positive, it worries me. Haha! I just wonder what would happen if I kinda, you know, kick someone out of my empire? Eheheh. Mean, MEAN thoughts!

I wouldn't recommend Friendster to everybody, though. I mean, most of the people in my list of friends have always been my friends. I didn't meet them online or anything. Well, except for Meg. Hehe. But I did discover that some of my high school batchmates are in the same circles as some of my friends. So it's pretty cool trying to reconnect with people...in the hopes that they'll say something nice about you. Haha, joke!

I just finished my quickest audio bed ever! 6 minutes in 3 hours! Woohoo! That's a first because I absolutely hate audio bed-ing. It usually takes me 'til morning to get it over with and it's so boring and taxing, especially when you have to edit out so many uh's and um's. Sigh.

I think I'll give myself a Nissin's beef ramen and yosi break for a job well done. Inserts, here I come! :)

>Getting back in shape is back!

There's an article on Ani de Leon in HerWord.com. Ani is the country's top female triathlete and the younger sister of Sinag, a finisher in the IRONMAN Australia 2002. Our production assistant Jan Cabanos did a story on the two athletes a few weeks ago and they're really inspiring to listen to. I've met them in person before and I love the fact that they're also artists when they're not training. It just goes to show that sports can fit any lifestyle whatsoever, and that endorphins will always keep you up and about and happy.

I've finally given up making excuses such as being tired from editing, from shooting, from writing and from commuting to and fro the office. Watching the sisters smile while running around the UP oval made me really jealous. So I dragged my jiggly ass to the gym and got myself a workout and with all honesty, I've been working out almost every day of the week. And I feel great!

What's even better was jogging in UP Diliman yesterday with Buko, Boss Joy and Bunny. Nothing beats jogging outdoors because not only do you eliminate the boredom factor (Even when you're watching a good movie while running, the treadmill can be extremely boring.), but you make sure that you get yourself to cover the distance from start to finish. Whether you're walking or running, for as long as you cover 5k or 10k or whatever k, the mere fact that you finish it is always more fulfilling. And an outdoor sweat always feels better than the one that dries up in an airconditioned gym.

My college friends and I also played badminton near Ateneo last Wednesday, thanks to Lia for planning the whole thing. When I saw everybody there, I joked, "Welcome to my world!" We enjoy watching films together, but doing a sport with them proved to be hilarious! After watching a few games, Ramon and Mikey decided to team up against Quark and Jomi. All of them were rusty, so I had to teach them and do the scoring at the same time. I wish I had my video cam because I can't describe how funny they all were. It was just the funniest badminton game I've ever seen. And oh! Ramon and Mikey won. Hehe.

Meanwhile, I saw some high school friends playing Ultimate Frisbee in Alabang last Sunday. Now these weren't the jocks of Zobel playing. These were the rock and roll people my barkada and I used to drink and bounce to the beat with at gigs. Seeing them running and panting with sweat dripping from their chins was kind of shocking, but awesome just the same. They were still skinny, but this time they had muscles glistening in the sun. Haha! Naks! Way to go, guys!

So I guess fitness has finally become not only important but FUN for people. A friend and I were just talking about how getting in shape has suddenly become so important that we're actually adjusting our schedules just so we can get a good sweat every now and then. At first I was afraid that it was becoming a trend. Badminton and Frisbee are in danger of being trends themselves. But I'm sure that whatever happens, if fitness is indeed a trend, it will always be there, waiting, waiting, and it will always be important.

Miss you, Cam!!! :)
